Ask for what you want, but don’t insist on getting it
Imagine arriving at a hotel after a long journey, feeling tired and just wanting a comfortable place to rest. But when you get there, you find out that the hotel is full, and there’s no room available for you. It can be really frustrating, right?
Now, imagine there’s another person in line ahead of you who gets really angry and starts yelling at the hotel worker because they didn’t get a room. They’re demanding to be given a room, even though there aren’t any available. How do you think the hotel worker feels when they’re being yelled at like that?
Now, in this same situation, instead of getting angry and yelling, you decide to stay calm. You politely ask the hotel worker if they could help you find another place to stay nearby. You’re not demanding or insisting, just asking nicely.
Surprisingly, the hotel worker remembers that there’s actually a special room available because someone had to leave unexpectedly. And because you were patient and kind, they decide to give you that room at a lower price! How cool is that?
Now, why do you think the hotel worker remembered the room for you but not for the angry person? Well, when we’re kind and polite, it makes people feel more relaxed and willing to help us. But when we’re demanding and angry, it stresses them out, and they might forget things or not want to help as much.
So, the lesson here is that it’s good to ask for what you want, but it’s also important to be patient, kind, and not demand things too strongly. You never know, you might just get a nice surprise like getting a fancy room at a lower price!
