Three last wishes
Once upon a time, there was a great king named Alexander. He had conquered many kingdoms and was returning home when he fell ill and became very sick. His generals gathered around him as he lay on his deathbed.
Alexander told them he had three last wishes.
- First, he wanted only his doctors to carry his coffin.
- Second, he wanted the path to his grave to be covered in gold, silver, and precious stones from his treasury.
- And lastly, he wanted both his hands to hang out of his coffin.
His generals were puzzled by these strange requests, so they asked him why. Alexander explained that he wanted to teach three important lessons to the world.
He wanted people to understand that doctors couldn’t save him from death, so they shouldn’t take life for granted. He wanted them to know that all the riches he had collected in his life couldn’t go with him after death, showing that chasing wealth was a waste of time. And finally, he wanted people to remember that everyone comes into the world empty-handed and leaves the same way.
With these words, Alexander closed his eyes and peacefully passed away, leaving behind valuable lessons for all to learn.
